Selling on the Marketplace

Hot Rods Trader is the premier marketplace for buying and selling hot rods, muscle cars, race cars, antique cars, respective car parts, and trailers.

Make more sales with Hot Rods Trader!  We run paid ads on Google and social media to drive highly targeted traffic to the marketplace.  To begin selling on our marketplace follow the below steps:
 

1. Create Listing

We offer two (2) different marketplace listing types: (1) Auction and (2) Fixed Price

Auction Listing:

  • Price: FREE - Receive 100% of the Selling Price!
  • Format: Buyers place bids on an item, with the highest bid winning when the auction ends.
  • Duration: 3, 5, 7, or 10 days.
  • Price Variability: Final price is determined by the highest bid, which can fluctuate based on demand.
  • Buyer Engagement: High, as buyers actively monitor and participate in the bidding process.
  • Ideal For: Unique or rare vehicles or items, where the seller hopes competition among buyers will drive up the price.

Fixed Price Listing:

  • Price: FREE - Receive 100% of the Selling Price!
  • Format: Vehicles or items are listed with a set price, and buyers can purchase immediately without bidding.
  • Duration: 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, or 30 days.
  • Price: Price is fixed, providing certainty for both buyer and seller.
  • Buyer Engagement: Lower, as the purchase is straightforward without competitive bidding.
  • Ideal For: Common or standardized vehicles or items, where the seller prefers quick sales at a predictable price.


2. Prepare Your Listing

Craft your listing with as much information as possible. Include comprehensive photos, service information, and ownership history.  We allow sellers to include PDF attachments and a YouTube video on their listing at no charge.

A few other points to note:

  • Before listing as an Auction Listing on Hot Rods Auction, your car must not be for sale elsewhere, so remove any other advertisements and do not accept outside offers.
  • For both Auction and Fixed Price listings we ask that you do no circumvent the marketplace. No citing in the descriptions, photos or attachments your external website or store.  All transactions with our buyers should happen within the marketplace.
  • Take high-quality photos to maximize your vehicle or item's value. Consider hiring a professional photographer.
  • Film a quick video. Use your phone in landscape mode and upload the video to YouTube and add it to your listing.
  • If applicable, review the vehicle title transfer process in your state, and if there is a loan on the vehicle, understand the process and timeline for paying it off.
  • Be ready to engage with buyers and answer any questions.
     

3. Auction Participation

Be active and participate with your live Auction listing(s) — responding to comments, answering questions, and providing additional pictures — is key to a successful Auction listing. Good engagement will attract more interest, bids, and a higher final selling price.

  • Interested bidders and buyers may contact you directly using the "Question & Answers" or the “Contact Seller” features.
  • Share your listing on social media or post to car forums to drive additional interest.
     

4. Auction End / Buy Now

After the auction closes or a buyer chooses to Buy Now, we’ll connect you with the buyer to complete the transaction. You will receive the buyer’s contact information (and vice-versa) to finalize the transaction details and logistics. Learn more about Finalizing the Sale.
